This is one of my Starbucks series drawings. It was done first in pencil on black paper and then follwed with oil pastel. The subject is Highbrow Jackson from a photo taken during the 2011 Futurity 2YO Sales. I expect to see him as a finalist in the Futurity next year.
I recently went to a preview at the Dallas Auction Gallery and saw many great cowboy paintings (others too). A painting of a cowboy stopping and turning his horse as a steer ran by caught my eye. It was done by Otis Dozier in 1976. I was thinking of the that painting when I drew this.
