Vizsla dogs enjoy the snow

One of the highlights of this snowing spring debut, was photographing these two Vizsla siblings having one of their practically endless play fights.
Although it may seem a bit intense, they always end up laying together while resting afterward.
The Male dog is Remy, he has the collar. Kiwi is the female without a collar (because Remy removes it within a few days).

First Day of Spring in North Texas?

Yep, I woke up to find 2 inches of snow on my truck and it was still snowing. It had snowed all night. The drive to the ranch was a bit challenging on the bridges, but once I got there it was quite a sight. By the end of the day the temperature had crept up to 42 degrees F but the wind was brisk, The snow had melted leaving just a few patches where it had drifted or piled in the shadows.

Here are some of my favorite landscape images from the day.

Stars' Filly

This foal was born last Thursday (1 week old on Saint Pats Day). The dam here is watching me as a photograph her filly. While I was photographing this foal, the other resident of the pasture, a mare named Unquestionable Twist, was tugging at my collar and licking the back of my neck.

Snow Day in Mesquite, Texas

We were treated to a full day of snow in North Texas today. It started about 5am and is forecast to go on at least off and on until midnight. I got out to take some photos about 3pm and found this flag scene at my Apartment entrance. It sort of reminded me of what I saw on TV of the big snow in Washington DC. This is to show them we had our on little (7 inch) Snowmageddon here in Texas. The photo below is of some folks enjoying the snow when it was at the heaviest. DMA Creative Connections: Make It, Take It

This first Thursday of February at the Dallas Museum of Art the project was to create a small weaving inspired by a new installation entitled:Woven Records.

This weaving was created using various strings, yarns, dyed wool, and leather and attached to a 3.5x5 masonite panel painted blue.

Drawing from the Galleries: Cezanne's Father

Sketching in the Galleries has returned in a new format. It is now facilitated within the Dallas Museum of Art Center for Creative Connections. We have a leader that has a background in both Drawing and Art History so that we may get more of a background on the art which we are sketching. This White pencil sketch on black paper is from a Charcoal done by Cezanne of his father. It is located in the Reeves Collection.

DIY at DMA: Puzzle Piece Assemblage

Our instructer was Rene Muhl, an artist from University of North Texas who usees materials such as Bronze, Puzzle pieces and fiber in her installations. She led the class in using puzzle pieces in sculpture. She discussed creating sculpture that connect people of diverse backgrounds through common interests. After attempting to weave puzzle pieces together using wire, I created this relief sculpture using a pieces from a variety of puzzles and a hot glue gun.

In The Kitchen: Bison Chuck Roast

Saturday night I was grocery shopping on my way home from the ranch and found a short dated special on Bison Chuck Roast. I bought it for my Monday and Tuesday Supper. This afternoon at about 3:30 I put it in my iron skillet with 3/4 cup of water with Lipton Onion Soup, 3 Carrots peeled and cut, and 4 quartered Red Potatoes. I covered with Aluminum foil and the iron skillet top put in the oven at 275 and left to run some errands and do my laundry. When I returned at 6:30 I pulled it out of the oven an checked with my meat thermometer. The temp indicated it was done. I was a little afraid I would have tough meat, but the roast was very tender and perfectly done.

In The Kitchen: Green Chili Pork Stew and Banana Date Bread

As many have heard on the weather, it has been very cold here in Texas since Early Thursday morning. Today on Friday I worked in kitchen on two different recipes

Green Chili Pork Stew

• Brown 1lb or so of Pork stew meat along with a diced sweet onion
  
  
• Add a 1lb can of Green Enchilada Sauce along with 2 peeled and diced roasted green chilis.
  
  
• Add diced white potatoes.


• Add water to fill pot


• Cook on Medium heat until pork and potatoes are done.


• Serve in bowl garnished with goat cheese with corn tortillas.

In the recipe below I substituted Butter for Shortening, 1 cup oat flour and used dates instead of nuts.

Dinner Run

Quarter Horse Yearlings run for the alfalfa at dinner time.

DIY at DMA: Mondrian Felt

This month at the DIY at the DMA workshop, Our instructor,Lizzy Wetzel led us on an interesting journey into the world of felting. After a short presentation and demonstration we were able to create our own work of art using a large variety of colors of wool. Rather than trying to get to representational in ny project, I used my memory of Mondrian paintings and created this creation in felt.

Setting the Cattle

Today I was in Ft Worth at Day 2 of the Futurity Sales. They were selling mostly 3 yo and up yesterday and 2YO today.
They were showing the horses on cattle as they sold. Before all this can happen, all the horses have to be settled. These two photos were taken during the settling early Wednesday morning. I was very interesting in the textures created in the images.
I experimented with adding the dimension of speed. I took these images very slow so that the cows moving around on the edges were blurred while the cows in the center and a few on the edges which at stopped were not blurred.
